The movie Collapse shows how society is under a collapses which environmental problems contribute. Everyday, our important resources, such as water, oil, food, energy, etc, are depleted in enormous rate. These
happen because of the tendency of humans thinking about immediate well-being of themselves. This natural tendency eventually leads to painful future and harsh reality.
Diamond focused more on collapses rather than buildups, and brought up the societies that varied in respect of environmental fragility. He referred relations with neighbors and political institutions as “input” variables
to influence a society’s stability. The “output” variables were collapses or survival, and different types of collapse. By comparing input and output variables, he made connection about how input variables have impact on
the collapses.
He referred climate change, hostile neighbors, collapse of essential trading partners, environmental problems, and failure to adapt to environmental issues as some factors will contribute to some type of collapses.
According to him, the main problem that leads to collapse is overpopulation in the environment with limited capacity. He says that only factor not affected by overpopulation is effects from introducing new, non-
indigenous species into an area.
The idea that overpopulation leads to all the major problems is very logical and agreeable. More people basically means more problems.
